CLASS POLICIES
Class Placement & Levels
Class placement is determined solely at the discretion of the instructor and is based on each dancer’s individual training history, ability, and progress. The instructor carefully evaluates each student to ensure they are placed in the class that best supports their development.
Every dancer is unique and will advance at their own pace. Throughout the program, students are continually assessed to make sure they are receiving appropriate instruction and challenges for their current level. As progress is made, placement may be adjusted to better suit the dancer’s evolving needs.
If a level change or group switch is necessary, the instructor will notify the parent or guardian directly to discuss the update and explain the reason for the change. All placement decisions are made with the dancer’s best interest and long-term growth in mind.
We appreciate your support and trust in the instructor’s professional guidance.
Class Requirements
All of our classes are grounded in respect, discipline, and a deep appreciation for the art of dance. We strive to create a focused, professional, and inspiring learning environment for every student. To maintain this standard, the following requirements must be observed:
-
Classroom Etiquette: Dancers are expected to show respect for their teacher and fellow classmates at all times. This includes listening attentively, following instructions promptly, and refraining from unnecessary talking or disruptive behavior during class.
-
Timeliness: If you arrive late to class, please wait quietly at the door until the instructor invites you in. This shows respect for the space and avoids disturbing others.
-
Dress Code: All students must wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for a full range of movement, along with appropriate footwear (clean, supportive dance or sports shoes depending on the class style). Proper attire promotes safety, freedom of movement, and professionalism.
-
Class Attendance: Students are required to attend the designated number of classes appropriate for their level—no exceptions. Consistent attendance is essential for technical growth, group choreography, and readiness for performance opportunities.
By honoring these expectations, students not only elevate their own progress but also contribute to a respectful and enriching classroom environment for all.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is recorded at the start of each class. Consistency is essential—not only for building strong technique and individual growth, but also for maintaining the rhythm and progress of the entire group, especially when working on choreography and performances.
If a dancer is unable to attend class, we ask that you please contact the instructor or KO Approach Dance in advance. Committing to a class means showing up not just for yourself, but for your fellow dancers too. Absences—especially during choreography periods—can impact the full group experience.
If attendance becomes a concern, the instructor may reach out to discuss the situation or suggest a class schedule that better fits the dancer’s needs. If a dancer misses two consecutive classes without notice, their spot may be released and offered to a student on the waitlist.
For the safety of our dancers, any student arriving 15 minutes or more late will not be allowed to join the class that day. We understand that life happens—traffic or scheduling issues—but missing the warm-up increases the risk of injury and disrupts the flow of class. In such cases, we encourage you to attend a full make-up class instead.
Thank you for supporting a respectful, safe, and committed dance environment.
Class Attire
Please refer to our full Dance Class Attire guide for detailed recommendations.
For all classes, we encourage a classy, clean, and comfortable style that supports full range of movement and personal expression.
-
Clothing: Loose-fitting athletic wear such as sports pants, shorts, and breathable t-shirts made from natural or stretchable materials is ideal. Clothes should not restrict movement or cover the dancer’s eyes or face.
-
Footwear: Dancers should wear comfortable, supportive sneakers suitable for movement. Dance sneakers are recommended and can be found on sites like Nike.com, Adidas.com, or other major athletic brands. Any cross-training or sport shoe with good grip and flexibility will also work well.
-
Style & Accessories: Hats and other accessories are welcome as long as they don’t interfere with movement or visibility. Dancers are encouraged to express themselves while still prioritizing function and safety.
-
If you're unsure what to purchase, you can ask a store associate for guidance or do a quick search online for “dance sneakers” or “training shoes for dance.” The most important thing is comfort, mobility, and readiness to move with confidence.
Parent Viewing Policy
To support a focused and productive learning environment, we kindly ask that parents do not remain inside the classroom during class time. This allows dancers to fully engage with their training, build confidence, and develop independence without outside distractions.
If your studio space includes observation windows, you are welcome to quietly watch from outside. However, we ask that you avoid interacting with your dancer during class—this includes knocking, waving, or speaking through the glass—as even small gestures can disrupt their concentration and the group’s focus.
At the end of each class, the instructor will often invite parents in to observe the final piece or combination, and you're welcome to take photos or videos during this time. Please keep in mind that each class is part of an ongoing learning process. What you see may not be a polished routine, and sometimes the choreography may be incomplete or in progress.
We ask for your understanding and patience—our goal is to give you a glimpse into what your dancer is working on and to include you in their journey, not to present a finished product each week. Your support and encouragement mean the world, especially as students build their skills and confidence over time.
We absolutely value and appreciate your involvement. Your presence outside the classroom is essential to your dancer’s growth. Inside the studio, we aim to create a space where dancers can focus, connect with their instructor, and explore their creativity with full attention.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for all.
Food And Drink
To maintain a clean, safe, and distraction-free environment for all dancers:
-
No food, snacks, or chewing gum are allowed inside the studio spaces at any time.
-
Water is the only beverage permitted inside the classroom, and it is strongly encouraged to keep dancers hydrated during class. Please bring a closed, non-spillable water bottle.
-
Dancers are expected to clean up after themselves and properly dispose of any trash to help keep all shared areas tidy and respectful for everyone.
Cell Phones
All cell phones must be silenced or turned off and stored safely inside a dance bag or with personal belongings at the side of the classroom. Phone use is not allowed during class time unless specifically permitted by the instructor.
If you would like to film choreography or review your progress, please ask your instructor before recording. Filming is only allowed when it does not disrupt the flow of the class or distract other students.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a focused and respectful studio atmosphere!
